Chronic Joint Inflammation: Causes and Treatment Options

Persistent joint inflammation, known as chronic inflammation, persists beyond typical healing periods and is commonly linked with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Symptoms include joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and reduced mobility.

With time, chronic inflammation can harm joint cartilage, surrounding tissues, and even bone. Treatment aims to diminish inflammation, manage pain, and maintain joint function, often involving medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), and biologic agents.

Additionally, physical therapy, exercise, lifestyle adjustments, and occasionally surgery may be suggested to alleviate symptoms and enhance joint well-being.
